Preview of Novak Djokovic vs. Tim van Rijthoven
Three-time reigning champion Novak Djokovic will square off with Dutch joker Tim van Rijthoven in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2022 on Sunday.
Djokovic has improved with every game in the Championships so far. After a four-set victory over Kwon Soon-woo, he beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets and was his best dominating against Miomir Kecmanovic in the third round.
Djokovic dialed in early in the game, dishing out a bagel to win the first set. After saving a break point, Kecmanovic finally got on the board in the second set. However, the pressure from the defending champion was relentless.
Djokovic got the decisive break towards the end of the set and continued to serve it in the following match. He took a 3-1 lead in the third set, which he then extended to 5-2. Kecmanovic showed signs of fighting back by breaking his opponent’s serve as he tried to close the proceedings.
After a failed first attempt, Djokovic stepped in to close the game a second time. This time there was no miss as he won 6-0, 6-3, 6-4.
Tim van Rijthoven rose to prominence after his triumph at the Libema Open last month. He had not won an ATP match before winning the title there. He also continued his good form at Wimbledon. He beat Federico Delbonis and Reilly Opelka to set up a third-round clash with Nikoloz Basilashvili.
van Rijthoven earned a break of serve in the ninth game of the first set against Basilashvili before serving to clinch it. He took an early 5-1 lead in the second set, but lost serve trying to serve it the first time. However, he immediately broke Basilashvili’s serve in the next game to win the set.
After trading breaks at the start of the third set, the pair stayed on serve until the end. With Basilashvili serving to stay in the game at 5-4, the pressure proved too much. van Rijthoven broke it for the last time to win 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

Novak Djokovic vs Tim van Rijthoven Prediction
Djokovic was very impressive in his third round win over Kecmanovic. He hit 36 winners and only committed 19 unforced errors. His forehand in particular was quite deadly, with most winners coming off that wing.
van Rijthoven also played a very good game. He hammered 21 aces in the third round and his serving prowess will be put to the test against Djokovic, who is one of the best returners on the circuit. The Serb has had a tough year at Majors so far, and he looks focused and motivated to win the title here.
The Dutch player is currently on an eight-match winning streak and will be feeling quite confident. But getting the most out of Djokovic on center court is a challenge that very few players have managed to overcome. Van Rijthoven’s fairy tale run should end here as the defending champion continues his title defense.
Take: Novak Djokovic won in two sets.
