Mohamed Salah weighs his options with his contract at Liverpool expiring next summer, while the winger has been promised a move to Barcelona as a free agent

Mohamed Salah is at a crossroads in his Liverpool career

Mohamed Salah has told close friends he is ready to commit his future to Liverpool but has made a drastic turnaround after Barcelona promised him a move next summer.

The Egyptian winger is weighing his options with his current deal which expires next summer. Salah has claimed he will stay put next season but there are question marks over who his employers will be beyond that.

The Reds have been locked in extension talks since last summer but have been unable to reach an agreement as Salah seeks a big pay rise. While Liverpool are reluctant to break their salary structure, they remain hopeful that they can meet him somewhere in the middle.

If Salah doesn’t sign an extension this summer and Liverpool keep him beyond the transfer window, they risk letting him go as a free agent in 12 months.

This will bring several clubs into the equation and Soccer Mirror can exclusively reveal that the striker has been promised to move to Barcelona next summer on a free transfer. Barca’s verbal offer is believed to be a key reason for the striker’s stall on a new Liverpool deal, despite telling close friends a few months ago he was ready to sign a new deal at the Merseyside club.

Salah has confirmed he will be at Anfield next season ahead of their Champions League final loss to Real Madrid. He said: “In my mind, I don’t focus on the contract. I don’t want to be selfish at all. I said two months ago it was about the team. It’s an important week for us.

“I’m just focused on the team and winning the Champions League again. I want to see Hendo [Jordan Henderson] with the trophy in their hands and I hope he gives it to me. I don’t want to talk about the contract now, of course I’m staying next season, that’s clear.”

Liverpool will hope the recent contract extension of Jurgen Klopp – which keeps the German in the Anfield dugout until at least 2026 – will help convince Salah and Sadio Mane – who is in exactly the same situation as his team-mate – to commit their future with the Reds.

But Klopp doesn’t think that will be a deciding factor. “It’s more a question for the boys, what exactly does it mean to them, but it’s all good, my relationship with them is great,” he said.

Will Mohamed Salah leave Liverpool next summer? Let us know in the comments .

“My point is that in life there are more important things to think about, not only who the manager is, but knowing who the manager is and the coaching staff is an important thing because when you know what you have with other clubs where you could go, you don’t know exactly.

“There is not 100% in this profession, but I think it is very likely that I will stay a little longer because other coaches are there in other clubs.

“If it’s a positive sign for the boys, so much the better, but I don’t think it will be the only decisive thing for the decision they want to make. It’s their own life, but we just wanted to ensure that all anyone who wants to be here knows what to expect.”
