Construction of new Des Moines pro football stadium postponed to 2025

The Iowa Soccer Development Foundation announced Monday that Pro Iowa Stadium and Global Plaza are scheduled to open in 2025. In January, the foundation announced that it had signed a franchise agreement to bring a professional United Soccer League team to Monks. this initiative, we dreamed of a stadium and gathering space for football fans and community members from all walks of life to unite and celebrate the global game,” said Charley Campbell, Secretary of the Iowa Soccer Development Foundation, in a press release. “We have a lot of positive momentum right now. And now that an official franchise agreement has been signed, plans are well advanced for the construction of the stadium and plaza. A 2025 opening date aligns with our goal of providing a facility that aligns with the vision of downtown Des Moines, supports the cultural vibrancy of the area, and leverages Iowa’s rich football history. “The foundation said the stadium was originally scheduled for completion in 2024. The stadium is being built on the former 43-acre Dico site south of the city center. The date is more reasonable. This gives us the best possible chance for the team to play a full season,” Campbell said. The Iowans can help name the new football team. The Iowa Soccer Development Foundation announced Monday that Pro Iowa Stadium and Global Plaza are scheduled to open in 2025.

In January, the foundation announced that it had signed a franchise agreement to bring a professional United Soccer League team to Des Moines.

“When we started this initiative, we dreamed of a stadium and a gathering space for football fans and community members from all walks of life to come together and celebrate the global game,” said Charley Campbell , secretary of the Iowa Soccer Development Foundation, in a press release. »

The foundation said the stadium was originally scheduled for completion in 2024. The stadium is being built on the former 43-acre Dico site south of downtown.

“As we reassessed the construction schedule – taking into account supply chain challenges and costs, remediation of the DICO site and conversations with suppliers – we determined that an opening date in 2025 is more reasonable. It gives us the best possible chance for the team to play a full season,” Campbell said.

Iowans can help name the new football team. Pro Iowa, the initiative to bring professional football to Iowa, is seeking help from the community to develop the team’s name, crest and other branding. Complete the survey at USLProIowa.com/team.
