After a reduced schedule for the opening of the 2022 season on Thursday evening, we should be almost complete for the first slate on Friday evening.

Huge matches across the state including Vigor at Blount, Saraland at Daphne, Hewitt-Trussville at Central-Phenix City, Foley at Prattville, Gardendale at James Clemens, and Pinson Valley at Florence. Additionally, Hoover takes on Auburn in Game 2 of the AHSAA Kickoff Classic in Montgomery.

7:14 p.m., Ben is back: Enterprise leads Bay High 7-0 in Ben Blackmon’s debut as head coach. Blackmon has spent the past seven years at Spanish Fort.

7:09 p.m., first tracks: Theodore took an 8-0 lead visiting Baker. Cameron Rigby with a 55-yard TD pass to Treyvian Glover. The 2-point conversion is good. Meanwhile, defending 6A champion Clay-Chalkville scores on his first offensive play, Alabama’s Kamari McClellan engages Jaylen Mbakwe. It’s 6-0 Cougars. Also, Oak Mountain with an early 7-0 lead over Northridge.

7:08 p.m., New Era: First game for new Hoover head coach Wade Waldrop and it’s a big game against Auburn in the Kickoff Classic.

6:59 p.m., Big game at B’ham: Defending 6A champ Clay-Chalkville, a 15-game winner, takes on Clemson QB Christopher Vizzina and Briarwood Christian in the opener for both teams.

6:54 p.m., First final of the evening: Buford, Ga., pulls away to beat Class 7A No. 1 Thompson 38-7 in the Freedom Bowl in Alpharetta, Ga. AL.com will have photos and full coverage shortly. 6:46 p.m., shows the rookie: Junior Baker QB Josh Flowers warms up for his team’s game at Theodore. After a great second season, Flowers was offered by Alabama and Florida in the offseason.

6:42 p.m., Big party at 7A: Not only is Thompson playing perhaps the best team in Georgia this afternoon, but the other four ASWA top 5 teams face off. Hoover faces Auburn in the AHSAA Kickoff Classic in Montgomery, while Hewitt-Trussville travels to Central-Phenix City.
