Major League Soccer and Liga MX today announced that the Leagues Cup Showcase will feature three matches in September, including a first-ever match between FC Cincinnati and Club Deportivo Guadalajara, “Chivas”. The historic Liga MX club will travel to Cincinnati and take on the Orange and Blue at TQL Stadium on September 21. Additional information, including broadcast information and kick-off time for the September game, will be announced at a later date.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chivas de Guadalajara to TQL Stadium,” said FC Cincinnati co-CEO Jeff Berding. “Cincinnati has hosted a number of incredible international soccer events including FC Cincinnati’s game against Crystal Palace before joining MLS in 2019, which at the time was the largest soccer crowd in league history. Ohio, a U.S. National Team World Cup qualifier against Mexico, and other U.S. men’s and women’s friendlies. The Leagues Cup Showcase, a preview of the highly anticipated 2023 Leagues Cup between all MLS and Liga MX clubs, now features five matches between MLS and Liga MX clubs. LAFC and Club América and LA Galaxy and Chivas will play a doubleheader at SoFi Stadium on August 3, while Nashville SC will face Club América on September 21 and Real Salt Lake will face Atlas FC on September 22.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9:00 a.m. EST on Monday, July 18.

Season subscribers will also have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets at a discount through an exclusive presale on Thursday, July 14.

The Leagues Cup Showcase returns with three showpiece matches in September: FC Cincinnati will host Chivas, Nashville SC will host Club América and Real Salt Lake will face Atlas FC
NEW YORK AND MEXICO CITY (June 30, 2022) – Major League Soccer (MLS) and LIGA MX announced today that Leagues Cup Showcase will add three featured matches in September in Cincinnati, Nashville and Salt Lake City. For the first time in the history of each club, FC Cincinnati will receive Club Deportivo Guadalajara, Nashville SC will face Club America and Real salt lake will be the host FC Atlas. The Leagues Cup Showcase series will serve as a preview for the highly anticipated 2023 Leagues Cup between all MLS and Liga MX clubs next summer.
These three matches join the doubleheader announced on August 3 in Los Angeles with LA Galaxy against Chivas and LAFC against Club América. The September match schedule is as follows.

Chivas and Club América are two of the most successful clubs in LIGA MX with 12 and 13 titles respectively. Atlas FC is the current LIGA MX Campeón de Campeones – the overall Mexican league champion – given the club’s back-to-back wins in Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022.
Having recently joined MLS in 2019 and 2020, FC Cincinnati and Nashville SC will play their first-ever international matches as MLS clubs and first international club matches at their stadiums, respectively. FC Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium, which hosted its first game in the spring of 2021, is one of the league’s newest stadium gems with a capacity of 26,000 fans. In Nashville, GEODIS Park, inaugurated in May, is the largest stadium dedicated to football in the United States with a capacity of 30,000 seats. An MLS club with a deeper history, Real Salt Lake joined the league in 2005, inaugurated its picturesque Rio Tinto stadium in 2008, was MLS Cup champion (2009) and appeared in important cup finals, including the US Open Cup. and the Concacaf Champions League.

Leagues Cup Showcase will serve as a preview for the highly anticipated 2023 Leagues Cup, the annual month-long official tournament between MLS and LIGA MX which will be attended by all 47 MLS and LIGA MX clubs and the respective seasons will stop for the tournament , with the League Cup champion automatically qualifying for the knockout stages of the Concacaf Champions League (CCL). Additionally, clubs finishing second and third in the League Cup from 2023 will qualify for the CCL first round.
MLS and LIGA MX – which entered into a partnership in 2018 rooted in rivalry on the pitch as well as the true spirit of collaboration off the pitch – will suspend their respective seasons for a month during the summer of 2023 to play the League Cup, showcasing football infrastructure and capabilities in the region in the years leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico – the first World Cup to feature 48 countries.
